Percentage hurricane and windstorm deductibles apply to your dwelling limit (Coverage A) — not to the size of your loss. See what yours really is.

$8,000
2% of $400,000 dwelling limit
The percentage is applied to your dwelling limit, so a high percentage on a large home can dwarf a smaller loss.

Standard policies use a flat dollar deductible (say, $1,000). But for hurricanes, named storms, and wind/hail, most coastal policies switch to a percentage deductible tied to your dwelling (Coverage A) limit.
That means a 5% deductible on a $500,000 home is $25,000 out of pocket before the insurer pays a dollar — regardless of whether your loss is $30,000 or $300,000. Knowing this number in advance is critical to deciding whether and how to file, and a public adjuster makes sure the full covered scope is captured so the deductible does not swallow your recovery.

Public adjusters help policyholders inspect, document, evaluate, and negotiate property insurance claims, which includes reading and applying your policy in the ordinary course of adjusting (coverage parts, exclusions, endorsements, scope). We do not practice law and we do not provide legal advice. For legal opinions, demand letters, Chapter 542A pre-suit notices, statutory remedies under the Insurance Code, or litigation, consult a licensed attorney in your state. Texas public adjusters operate under TX Ins. Code Chapter 4102; Florida public adjusters operate under FL Statute §626.854.
A licensed public adjuster documents the full covered scope so your recovery clears the deductible and then some. Free review.
