Insurance Appraisal Umpire Services

Neutral. Experienced. Decisive.

When the two appraisers cannot agree, the umpire decides. We serve as neutral umpires in insurance appraisal proceedings with the expertise to issue well-reasoned, defensible awards.

The Role of the Umpire in the Insurance Appraisal Process

The insurance appraisal process provides a binding, non-judicial dispute resolution mechanism for property insurance claims where the policyholder and the insurance company cannot agree on the amount of the loss. When the two party-appointed appraisers cannot agree, they select a neutral umpire to resolve the dispute.

The umpire reviews both estimates, examines the supporting documentation, and issues an award. The award of any two of the three (either appraiser agreeing with the umpire) is binding on both parties. The umpire role requires deep expertise in property damage valuation, construction costs, and insurance policy interpretation.

Joshua Osteen brings a unique combination of qualifications to the umpire role: experience as an insurance carrier adjuster from 2010 to 2017, Level 2 Xactimate certification, a background in construction and remodeling, and experience as a licensed public adjuster since 2017. He has seen property damage claims from every angle and brings that perspective to the umpire role.
